Income Tax Scam Alert 2026

Don't Fall for the Fake Email Trap!

Official Income Tax Scam Alert 🚨

The Income Tax Department has flagged a phishing campaign targeting taxpayers for Assessment Year 2025–26. Fraudsters are sending emails that look identical to official notices to steal your data.

How the Scam Works:

The email claims a tax demand is pending and provides a link to view a fake "Assessment Order."
Messages may claim errors in tax calculation or "refund processing issues" to create urgency.
These links lead to malware or fake portals designed to harvest your bank details, PAN, and OTPs.

✅ How to Stay Safe:

  • Never Click: Avoid clicking links in emails or SMS regarding refunds/demands.
  • Zero Trust: The Department NEVER asks for passwords, OTPs, or bank details via email.
  • Manual Entry: Always type the address incometax.gov.in directly into your browser.
