On 1st February 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the interim budget for 2024. The budget aimed to support women and young people, promising homes for the poor and free electricity for everyone.

She mentioned that poverty has gone down because of government programs. She also mentioned that the government is focused on four groups: women, the poor, young people, and farmers.

Tax Slab Remains Unchanged: The Finance Minister, in her budget speech, stated that there have been no changes in the tax slabs this year. The income tax threshold will remain at 7 lakhs, offering no benefits to taxpayers.

Free Electricity Announcement: During her budget speech, the Finance Minister announced that in the upcoming period, rooftop solarization will benefit one crore families. She mentioned that this initiative will provide free electricity up to 300 units per month, aiming for savings ranging from 15,000 to 18,000 rupees.

Government to Introduce Housing Scheme: The Finance Minister announced a new housing scheme to provide homes for every poor individual. She stated that the government will introduce a new housing scheme for people living in rented accommodations, slums, or unauthorized colonies.

Target of 4 Crore Houses: The Finance Minister mentioned that the Modi government is committed to providing homes for every poor person. She stated that the government has already allocated 2 crore houses to the poor and is close to achieving the target of 4 crore houses. Sitharaman also mentioned that our government has provided homes to 70% of women.

Expansion of Medical Colleges: Sitharaman mentioned that the government plans to establish more medical colleges using the existing infrastructure of hospitals. A committee will be formed for this purpose.

Vaccination Campaign for Cervical Cancer: The government will encourage vaccination for cervical cancer for girls aged 9-14 to eradicate cervical cancer.

Expansion of Ayushman Bharat: Health coverage under Ayushman Bharat has been extended to all ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and assistants.

Increase in Defense Spending: The Finance Minister stated that the government has increased defense spending by 11.1%, which will be 3.4% of GDP.

Railway Upgradation: 40,000 railway coaches will be built to match the standards of Vande Bharat. Three separate corridors will be built for overcrowded railway routes.

Empowering Women: The Finance Minister stated that our government has initiated a plan to make 3 crore women 'Lakhpati Didis' and has already made one crore women 'Lakhpati'."
