Significant Updates For Taxpayers in Budget 2024

In preparation for the upcoming elections, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is focusing on the welfare of four key segments of society: women, the poor, youth, and farmers. The budget for 2024 is expected to include increased allocations for existing schemes benefiting these groups, and there may also be the introduction of new projects with similar aims.

During a recent event in New Delhi, Sitharaman highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's emphasis on these target groups—youth, women, farmers, and the poor. The government's goal is to uplift these segments of society regardless of caste, community, or religion.

She stressed, "We're focusing on youth, women, farmers, and the less fortunate poor. Everything will be aimed at their betterment." Sources suggest increased investments in education and skill development for youth, along with boosted funding for programs aiding women and child development.

In the agricultural sector, there's a strong focus on supporting farmers, with plans to increase budgets for schemes like PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi by up to 30%. 

This scheme provides small and marginal farmers an annual transfer of Rs 6,000. There's also consideration for enhancing healthcare benefits and making the New Pension Scheme more appealing with fixed returns. This upcoming budget marks the 12th for the Modi Government and the sixth for Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

As Budget 2024 approaches, taxpayers hope for several key changes. They want the Section 80C deduction limit to increase, more tax benefits for homebuyers, and improvements to the New Tax Regime. Salaried individuals seek a higher standard deduction limit. Additionally, they want better deductions for health insurance premiums and more cities eligible for HRA tax exemption. We'll have to wait and see if these hopes become a reality in the upcoming budget.
