A person living in Lathi village, located in the Jaisalmer district, experienced a state of disbelief when they received a show-cause notice from the goods and service tax (GST) department. The notice demanded the immediate payment of approximately Rs 4.9 crore in outstanding dues. This news came as a shock to the farmer, who earns only Rs 5,000 per month.

In response, the farmer filed a complaint with the police about this matter. The notice explicitly stated that severe consequences would follow if the taxes remained unpaid.

Two months ago, Mehram Khan, a farmer, was served with a notice from the Nagpur regional unit of the Directorate General of Goods and Service Tax (GST) in Maharashtra. The notice informed him that he owed a substantial amount of Rs 4,89,66,552 in GST taxes, and it required him to make an immediate deposit of the outstanding amount.

According to Khan, his PAN number has been misused by someone who established a firm and failed to pay the corresponding GST. Consequently, he received the notice regarding the outstanding amount. Khan emphasized that he is currently unemployed and relies on farming as his primary means of livelihood in the village.

After the investigation of the matter, it is found that the PAN & Aadhaar Card of Mehram Khan was misused by a firm whose turnover is worth Crores. The police of Lathi village have stated that they are investigating meticulously about the matter. As of now, this is suspected as a scam.
