GST Update: GSTIN Issued An Important Advisory “Biometric Aadhaar Authentication” For Registration Applicants

On August 28, 2023, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) shared guidance about GST registration for folks chosen for Aadhaar authentication.

A rule change (Rule 8 of Central Goods and Services Tax Rules) now says that if you have chosen to use your Aadhaar number for authentication and the system identifies you based on data analysis and risk factors, you will need to do biometric Aadhaar authentication and have your picture taken.

The trial run for putting this change into action is all set, and the feature is set to be launched on the GSTN portal. This new feature will kick off in Puducherry starting from August 30, 2023, in a test phase.

When you submit your application using Form GST REG-01 and have not received the Application Reference Number (ARN) yet, you will either get a message to visit a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) or receive a link on your provided Mobile and Email ID.

This is decided based on the identification done by the common portal at the Temporary Reference Number (TRN) stage, ensuring a smooth registration process.

Only those applicants who would get the link for Aadhaar authentication can step ahead in the process of application completion. On the other side, applicants who got the link to visit GSK, are required to go to the designated GSK as mentioned in the Email.

After that, they need to get bimetric authentication as per GST application form RSG-01 for all required persons.

Applicants, go to a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) before your TRN expiration date, as mentioned in the email about the Biometric Aadhaar Authentication process.

If you do this, your ARN will only be made once the Biometric Aadhaar Authentication process is done. The GSK will be open on the days set by your state's administration, so make sure to follow their guidance.
