Late Fee for PAN-Aadhaar Linking: Rs 1,000, Higher Charges for Offline Process

If you did not link your PAN with your Aadhaar by July 30, 2023, your PAN might have become 'inoperative.' To connect them now, you can do it online by paying a late fee of Rs 1,000. However, some people face challenges linking them online due to discrepancies like mismatched birthdates. 

In such cases, you need to either update your Aadhaar at an Aadhaar enrollment center or visit a PAN service center to update your PAN.

How to Update Aadhaar Details?

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) offers a self-service update portal for Aadhaar. You can access this portal at https://ssup.uidai.gov.in/ssup/.  

You can update your address online using this portal. However, for other updates like demographic details (name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile number, email) and biometrics (fingerprints, iris, photograph), you need to visit a Permanent Enrollment Center.

How to Update PAN Details?

To update PAN details, you have two options: Protean or UTIITSL. Protean has designated PAN service providers across India who can update your PAN details for a nominal fee. 

If you choose to link PAN with Aadhaar using biometric authentication, you may also need to pay a nominal fee, along with a penalty of Rs 1,000.

For example, a Protean service provider in Mayapuri PH-2 charges Rs 150 for biometric authentication to link PAN and Aadhaar. Another service provider in Kuttichira, Kollam district, Kerala charges Rs 50 for the same service. 

Similarly, a service provider in Palus, MIDC road, Maharashtra, and one in Jamia Nagar, South Delhi, do not charge any extra amount for biometric authentication to link PAN and Aadhaar.

If your PAN Aadhaar linking failed due to a date of birth (DOB) mismatch, here is what you need to do:

1. To update your DOB in your PAN, contact Protean at [contact details] or UTIITSL at [contact details].

2. To update your DOB on your Aadhaar Card, please contact UIDAI at [contact details].

3. To try linking again, click here: 'Link Aadhaar.'

If the linking request still fails, it's recommended to use biometric-based authentication at dedicated centers of PAN Service Providers (Protean and UTIITSL). To do this, you should bring your PAN, Aadhaar, and a copy of the fee paid (Rs 1000), and pay the required biometric authentication charge at the center.
