Big news for UPI payers: NPCI Unveils 'Hello UPI' at Global Fintech Fest

Introducing 'Hello UPI' at the Global Fintech Fest: You can now make UPI payments using just your voice. The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has added this feature to UPI.

Right now, it works in Hindi and English, and soon it will include other local languages too. NPCI has also launched 'Lite X,' which lets you do rupee transactions even when you are offline.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) unveiled two conversational payment initiatives during the Global Fintech Fest on Wednesday. These initiatives aim to enhance convenience and accessibility for users.

'Hello UPI' enables users to carry out transactions through voice commands on their smartphones. This includes tasks like splitting a restaurant bill, sending money to friends, or paying utility bills.

According to an NPCI statement, "The introduction of conversational UPI payments enhances the user experience, allowing them to make voice-activated UPI payments using UPI Apps, phone calls, and IoT devices in Hindi and English, with more regional languages coming soon.

The NPCI has joined forces with the Bhashini program and AI4 Bharat at IIT Madras to create payment language models in Hindi and English. Additionally, the NPCI introduced 'Bharat BillPay Connect,' a program designed to simplify bill payments through conversations.

With 'Bharat BillPay Connect,' users can pay their bills using natural conversations with popular voice assistants like Alexa or through feature phones, smartphones, or merchant soundboxes. This initiative is designed to accommodate users with varying levels of tech proficiency, making digital bill payments accessible to everyone.

Customers can use voice commands on their smart home devices to check and pay their bills, and they will hear a confirmation in response right away. The NPCI also noted that instant voice confirmations will be provided for bill payments made in person at collection centers using payment soundbox devices.
