Record-Breaking ITR Filings Result In Fast Processing Time: Income Tax Refunds Within 12 Hours!

ITR Filing 2023: The processing time for Income Tax Refunds has been fastened significantly. Previously, taxpayers filing their returns for AY 2023-24 had to endure a wait of several weeks for refund processing.

However, in a remarkable turnaround, numerous return filers in July experienced a fast ITR refund process, receiving their refunds within a matter of days. In an exceptional case, a taxpayer on social media even reported that he got his tax refund within 12 hours.

Twitter user Nirnay Kapoor, a journalist by profession, shared screenshots of his ITR filing and refund deposit messages, expressing his astonishment at the unprecedented speed of the refund processing.

He mentioned that in all his previous experiences, he had never encountered such a fast refund process. Notably, after filing his return on the morning of July 27, he received a message confirming the refund deposit by the evening of the same day.

As per tax experts, taxpayers need not fret over refund processing, as the system has significantly improved in speed compared to previous years. Instead, the focus should be on early return filing to qualify for swift refunds and steer clear of last-minute filing complexities.

Early ITR filing offers an additional benefit: the Income Tax Department provides interest at a rate of 0.5% per month on refunds for taxpayers who file before the due date. This interest is calculated from April 1 until the refund date.

The due date for ITR filing for non-audited accounts is July 31. As of July 27, more than 5 crore returns have been filed, with over 2.69 crore ITRs already processed. Stay updated on Income Tax Return Due Date news. File your ITR promptly to avoid late filing consequences.

FM Nirmala Sitharaman in the initial week of the month stated that the income tax filing reforms have seen a fast and speedy ITR filing process than ever before. Compared to the previous year, the total number of processed ITRs gets to see a 100% increase within a day of their ITR filing.
